Rhyme to Read ~ App Giveaway

I was so excited when Lynn Klaiman contacted me about trying out her Rhyme to Read Ipad App.  She and Sara Hines created it, and they both have advanced degrees in education and are Experts!!

I downloaded the app on my personal ipad and tried it out with my Kindergartner, Morgan.
 Here's what the app features:
  • Rhyme to Read is a beginning reading program comprised of 20 short books.
  • The program is carefully structured to ensure success for the youngest readers as well as students needing remedial work.
  • Each of the twenty books, four per short vowel, highlights a specific word family (e.g., bat, cat, rat).
  • Each family is color-coded throughout the series with a different color (e.g., bat, cat, rat).
  • The color-coding of each word family encourages students to use visual similarities and differences to decode, a strategy employed by successful readers.
  • The color-coding also helps students develop phonological awareness by providing cues for sound discrimination and categorization.
  • Thirty-five common sight words are introduced and previewed the first five times they appear.  Sight words are distinguished by black type.
  • Delightful illustrations are used to enhance the storyline of each book.

So what did I REALLY think?  Wow!!  This is an amazing app that would be great for centers in a K or 1 classroom.  It's also great for kids to practice reading fluently at home.  I love that the patterns are color coded so they really stand out!  I love that students can touch a word and have it read to them.  Students won't need teacher supervision or instruction to use this app.  It's very kid- friendly.  My daughter dove right in and loved it!

Sara and Lynn have graciously agreed to give away one app to one lucky follower!  AND, I'm going to give away my "Rhyme Time" Packet, too.  Use the rafflecopter below to enter.  The giveaway ends on Wednesday.  Good luck!
