Improvised Easter Egg Dying

Yes, we are the procrastinators to who waited til the day before Easter to try to buy an egg dye kit.  Hubby took a picture of the shelves at Walmart in case I didn't believe him.  They were B.A.R.E.  Zip. Zilch. Nada.

So, Morgan and I improvised today.  We used gel food coloring in vinegar and water.  The colors weren't as bright and vibrant as I would've hoped, but we did the best we could with what we had.  And we had fun together!

We wrapped rubber bands around a few eggs.

But we used scrapbook stickers on most of the eggs.  We made monogrammed eggs.  Each child will have to find his or her egg to win a prize!

We made punctuation eggs:
My Favorite were the polka dotted eggs:

Overall, I was pleased with the way they came out considering how much improvising we had to do.  The foam scrapbook stickers worked best because they are thick enough not to melt in the dye, but they bend around the egg and lay flat.

  1. Great improvising! Have you ever tried the white crayon way?! I used to always do the Cross and then dye them!
