I intend to use it this fall with my firsties, but I tried it out this time around with my daughter, Morgan, who is in Pre-K. We use the A Beka program in PK-1st at my private Christian school. And while there are tons of things I don't like about A Beka, there are tons of things I do like as well...like the strong phonetic base. Needless to say, my daughter is knee-deep in reading and writing CVC words right now so this packet was perfect for her. She had a blast!
Morgan's favorite activity was coloring the real and nonsense words after she read them. There are 9 different versions of this activity.
Next, we completed a real and nonsense word sort. There are 5 different sorts. Then, Morgan had to record the real words in the correct column and the nonsense words in the correct column. I'm so proud of her...up until last week she was sounding everything out loud. Now she's realized that reading is in your head, so she reads the word silently then aloud. :)
The last activity we did together was a cut and paste activity. You cut out the words and paste them in the real/nonsense category after reading them. This was great for Morgan's fine motor skills as well as her reading. There are so many activities in the packet we haven't gotten to yet...games and fluency racing sheets. I can't wait to check it out more this Summer!
This is one proud little girl who enjoyed this packet! I'm going to suggest that our Kindergarten teacher invest in this packet for next year, and I'll definitely be getting everything prepped and ready for the beginning of the year with my firsties. Y'all go check it out at TPT {HERE}!
