My Favorite TPT Purchases

I thought I'd start a little series where I highlight some of my favorite TPT purchases.  We all do a great job showcasing our own products, but I don't think we toot each others' horns enough!  Tonight I wanted to introduce you to this little gem:

We all know that there is a huge emphasis in the Common Core on increasing nonfiction reading and writing.  Well, this packet has lit a nonfiction fire in my firsties!  They are devouring informational books now.  I started off making and displaying anchor charts using some of the resources from the packet:

I researched bats to teach the students.  Holly does a great job explaining how to teach your students to take notes and then turn the notes into sentences.  I love her "Parking Lots" for students to park their sticky notes of research.  I let students research online and in books.  They each got to choose their favorite animal.  They ate this up!  They had a ball.  They were so diligent and proud of their work.  It took us 2-3 weeks to complete the project, and Holly has done such a great job laying it all out and making it as stress-free as possible.  Here are some of my students' finished products:

 I love that the unit exposed the kiddos to lots of nonfiction text features.  And, there's even a cute certificate you can award the kids at the end!
