I am
really stoked about a new Christmas unit I just loaded on TPT the other
day. It’s called “The 12 Days of
Christmas {Literature}!” It actually
covers 15 popular Christmas books so you can pick and choose which ones to
use. The premise of the packet is
this: I have included 2-3 activities for
each book—generally a craftivity (with patterns/templates included) and a
literacy activity—a graphic organizer, a noun/verb sort, etc. I suggest you go ahead and run off all necessary
copies, gather colored paper and other supplies, etc. Then, gift wrap the book plus all of the necessary
materials together. I actually wrapped
all 15 books and activity sets myself.
There are 15 school days before Christmas break, so we will open one
book each day. I will let the leader
choose which book to open. Then, we will
complete the activities after reading the book.
Or, you can simply use it for the 12 Days leading up to Christmas break
instead of 15 days. There is a ton of
flexibility with how you use this! You
can even giftwrap one book a day so you can manage your lesson plans better and
you know exactly which book and activities to expect! You can download the preview at TPT to see exactly which books are included and which activities are included!
I think the
kids will be THRILLED about this fun unit!
I plan to have my classroom tree decorated and all the books under it
before they come to school on Monday, December 1st. Here are some pictures of how I have prepped
the materials:
The Christmas Crocodile and lesson materials--all ready to wrap!
Fancy Nancy's Splendiferous Christmas
The Polar Express...complete with book, activities, hot cocoa, and jingle bell necklaces for the kids!
Some of the 15 presents wrapped and ready to be taken to school.
Here are some of the Craftivities you will complete:
Santa Mouse
Splat the Cat
A beginning, middle, end present graphic organizer
Santa's Calendar to document his changes in A New Improved Santa
A Cause/Effect craftivity with The Night Before the Night Before Christmas
A book template and a craftivity for Santa's Stuck
A naughty and nice behavior sort for It's Christmas, David!
A poinsettia for The Legend of the Poinsettia
You can check out the packet on TPT here:
I will also be giving away a copy of the unit on Monday! To enter, just leave a comment telling me your favorite Christmas book. (I'd love it if you'd be a follower, too, but this isn't mandatory!) Good luck!!
I have lots of Christmas favorites but I really like Santa's New Suit and Mooseltoe.

My personal favorite is also The Best Christmas Pageant ever, but I won't read it to my class! Those Herdmans crack me up...and I giggle when the teachers won't retain one as then they'll have two the next year!

Very cute unit! I love all of the picture books of course including Polar Express as my favorite picture books. However, I especially love The Last Holiday Concert by Andrew Clements. My students loved hearing it last year as well.
