Tally-Mark Tim

I don’t have nearly as much creative time as I used to, but every once in a while I come up with a unique idea.  My latest creation is Tally-Mark Tim for teaching students about tallymarks.  I had the FABULOUS Nikki at Melonheadz Illustrating design some custom clip art for this packet.  I think she did an amazing job (as always).  Go visit her at www.melonheadzillustrating.blogspot.com.

Here’s Tim:

I wrote a cute little poem to go with the character and there is even a “Tally Mark Jive” students can do to get up and moving.  The *adorable* model doing the tally-mark jive is my precious five year old, Morgan. There is a popsicle stick craftivity you can do as well.

Here are some sneak peeks at everything included in this packet:

Leave me a comment letting me know what you think, and I will choose one lucky winner of the packet tomorrow night.   Today is the last day to get 20% off on all my Author Studies, so head on over to TPT and shop.  My newest unit is for Patricia Polacco.  Have a great week, friends!

  20. love these ideas - this year I have added an activity where my table groups earn tallies when they are "caught being good". I have a chart on the board where we keep track of the tallies for each table group, and they are doing a great job. They can tell me how many their table has, how many they need for a full set, and how many each group has. At our school we do "blue notes". A blue note is a 1/2 sheet of paper that goes home telling the family that your child was caught being good. They put their name on the bottom portion and then it is cut off and goes to the office. At the end of the day all blue names are read by the principal as part of our afternoon announcements! In my class in addition to getting a blue note for being caught being good, each child gets their own blue note when their table earns 5 tallies. Having the chart on the board for them to see has made a huge difference in their counting tallies.

  21. I purchased the lesson and used it. The kids caught on quick. It is a good visual and kinesthetic way to learn.
